The Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA) was started in October 2012 to carry on the program begun by the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific (SOAP). SOAP was founded in 2003 as a project of the Powell River Academy of Music and completed nine successful seasons before it was discontinued. PRISMA started where SOAP left off and has greatly improved the offerings of the two-week festival. I am proud to have been part of the group that founded PRISMA and that continues to bring wonderful music to the community while helping to develop the new generation of talented performers.
PRISMA now begins with the PRISMA on the Beach, a free oudoor event that highlights classical offerings as well as other music. art and community cultural activities. PRISMA puts on five public concerts over the two weeks, with distinguished professional guest artists and a symphony orchestra composed of top university and graduate level musicians. The public is also invited to attend master-classes, rehearsal and daily student recitals. PRISMA offers emerging student musicians of exceptional abilities an in-depth musical experience that advances them along the pathway to a professional career. PRISMA is an amazing experience for music-lovers of any genre. The live performances of top musicians playing passionately truly gives the audience an out of this world experience.
The PRISMA Festival starts in mid-June and takes place in Powell River, BC.
